I would like to start this blog by apologizing for not having written for the past few days. I will try to do better after the New Year. I recently drove home and was welcomed by weather that was below zero and winds that were around 35 mph. I feel like I live on a tundra. This will be a very short post as I am pretty busy visiting friends from home and enjoying time with family. As most of you know I start my job in the Senate on January 5th and am pretty excited about that. Today I will leave you with a question, which you may answer in the comments section.
For 2009, what topics would you like to see me discuss on this blog, and why?
I will probably post again after Christmas, so check back often. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season!

Next year you should definitely drop the kid gloves. Here are some issues I'd like to see you take a stance on.
1) Nuclear proliferation and disarmament
2) Stem cell research
3) Abortion
4) STAR WARS
5) Gay marriage
6) The death penalty
7) The bloated military budget
8) Gun control
9) Drug legalization (not just weed)
10) Affirmative action (workplace and universities)
11) The Israel lobby
12) The pitiful number of Iraqi refugees allowed into America (especially compared to Vietnam)
13) Long-term counterterrorism strategy (not just "where do we point the army?")
14) Palestinian independence
15) Darfur (more broadly, when is military intervention a humanitarian obligation?)
16) Idealism vs. Pragmatism in foreign relations; can you justify supporting dictatorships?
17) How powerful should the United Nations be?
and most importantly...
18) It's 2009. Where the fuck is my jetpack?
If those don't fire up some debate nothing will.
Brilliant list. I love you guys. I would add Iran as well. Alevis( Secular Muslims group in turkey) is an interesting topic. Upon hearing some stories and reading few articles, I got to hear about Secular Palestinian movements and how sad their situation was. Nothing much left of these people that one day were a substantial number. However, they might not be completely wiped out. West does not support them and Islamists and also Israel want to get rid of them. Most of the issues need extensive research, I look forward to read and challenge good articles.
19) The Kurds
I think you should closely follow Obama and his transition. And see what he does. I would like to hear a bit about your experience with your new job.
Agga's suggestions are all very good. I would like to hear some religion/philosophical arguments. Future of the GOP? You may have some new insight soon enough...
How efficient/inneficient is our govt?
I'll be checking.
Sounds good guys. I will certainly take those on soon.
How about....
1. Democracy (or lack thereof) in the United States..which could branch into a number of topics from 'normal' citizen engagement with the political process, to rising elements of fascism.
2. Our northern/southern borders
3. Foreign policy (what should it look like, as opposed to the current dismal situation)
4. Cuba
5. 'Free' Trade
6. Neo-liberalism
7. Globalization (I realize these are fairly interconnected)
8. The abuse of Corporate power (and lack of legal responsability/punishment)
9. Suppression of free speech and dissent in the US
10. WATER (a problem many 'westerners' seem to be oblivious of)
11. Environmental Issues - development of sustainable communities
Oh, and:
12. What it feels like to believe a mad-scottish ram is charging you from behind...good times.
Happy New Year.
JMichael- I resent #12 on your list. But I will take all of these into consideration when I start writing again this week.
